With its cheery little countenance, the dandelion has to be one of my favorite little wildflowers. Great in salads, very good at cheering one up, they are quite prolific, much to the consternation of gardeners!
My husband hates to see them in his "perfect" lawn- but we live in the country now - we don't have a lawn - we have a field!!! Dandelions are very much at home there!!!!
While the horses were grazing, I was admiring the dandelions, and decided to awaken my sketching abilities- notice I did NOT say talent!
I picked the several stages of the dandy lion, minus the puff ball- and tried to replicate them with paper and pencil.
A little yellow gel pen embellishment- and this is the best I can do.
But, I am not giving up- it was fun, and practice makes perfect-maybe!!!

Looks to me as if you have already practiced a lot -- quite perfect as far as I can see! Love them, especially the little one that's barely open. Now I want to go out and look for my own so I can put them in tonight's salad. Which parts are edible?
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Our little ones enjoy picking the neighbors weeds and bringing them back to our lawn--yikes...
ReplyDeletewow...verrrrrry lovely.... now let's see them in embroidery....hee hee
ReplyDeleteI WOULD say talent GF!!!

ReplyDeleteYou dont need to practice...look perfect too me!
Great job for a great flower. I love dandelions!
ReplyDeleteI am like Barb, which parts do we eat? Do you have a tutorial on using dandelion in salads?
ReplyDeleteYour sketching looks talented to me!
If that's not talent what is woman!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely and way to elevate the dandelion it does get a bad warp...I am just finally coming to terms with them ... they win! Chemicals have never been our thing ... they only bloom for a while and then it's just more green. I was out taking some pics of the wet puffs yesterday morning ;) Love what you created ... don't stop!

Love your photos and such and your Ode to the Dande Lion! What a sweet post for a day filled with this wonderful wildflower. I Love the depth of the yellow color in those flowers. Lennie
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know - the leaves are used in salads, stir fry, and for tea. Supposedly, the leaves become a bit bitter after the plant flowers. I know my horses eat the whole plant, but am not sure if the flower is for human consumption!!LOL Google it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love dandelions too! Seeing them in a filed makes me think of hundreds of little lions lying in the sun looking up at the sky. Your drawings are marvelous too.
ReplyDeleteLove the word dand-e-lion... though it may be a common {weed} flower it has the most sunniest of dispositions and always lends a smile.
ReplyDeleteMe thinks you are wasting your talents by not honing them regularly... beautiful artwork, Pat!
