Sketchbook Project Tour 2011

All along, we thought my sketchbook (and thousands of others) would be at 111 Minna Gallery today!

When it was time to leave to see the books,  Mike couldn't find any times or info about the Sketchbook Tour - he called the Minna Gallery, and they said the tour was not there.
So, I scrambled to the Art Co-op website to find out what was going on - only to discover the location had been changed!
And, the exhibit had been there for 2 days already!! This was the last day, not the first!!!

I did fire off an "upset" email to the Art Co-op, and to their credit, got a quick, and very apologetic reply.

Turns out, the Minna Gallery would not allow anyone under 21 in to view the books (!?) Altho' - Minna told my son, they had not heard back from the co-op, so all they knew was that the tour was not at the Minna.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. Mike did get to see my book - I am not sure if he got to check out any others- it looked crowded and was close to closing .

So, if you have a book in the 2011 tour, or wish to go see the books at any location - check to make sure there haven't been any last minute changes or updates!!!!

Chicago, Illinois, and Winter Park, Fla are the next stops- but check the website to be sure!!!!

There are ALOT of wonder-full artists and illustrators who have books in the tour. If you can't make it to any of the locations, the books will eventually all be online at the Brooklyn Art House Co-op's website.

And, if you'd like to play along - I believe there is still time to get a moleskine of your own for the 2012 Tour!!!
I did!!!!

Sketchbook Project 2011- Ta Da!!!!!!

Unbelievable!!
I actually participated in , and completed something ON TIME!!!

It has been known to happen, on occasion, but I am such a procrastinator, that I sometimes take on more than I can do!
Or, have ideas that I don't know how to make a reality........that happens alot!

This sketchbook was tough to start, I made a new cover for it - and then stalled. Blank pages, and totally blank mind.....!!!
As I flipped thru the finished product, I can see where it got better as I progressed.
I hope that whoever looks thru it, will be interested enough to keep turning the pages, because it DOES get better.

My book will be ONE of some 26,000!!! LOL  I forget the exact number of participants really, but it is a phenomenal amount! All books are entered and categorized, with an ISB #, and then sent on a tour of the US, starting in Feb or March. The Art House Co-op has arranged for the books to tour many states, including Brooklyn, Washington, DC, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.

If you click on The Sketchbook Project there will be updates for the tour. I will also let you know when it starts, so if you are in or near a city the books visit, you can drop by and see some really great art in moleskine journals. I think just seeing the books all in one room will be amazing in itself!!!

I will even post my barcode - so you can look up my book too!! When the tour comes to DC, I will have to go outside my 30 mile radius of travel, and  visit mine, and all the rest!!!

My category is The View From Up Here, and since I am not the best illustrator by any means, my book is made up of photos, zentangles, sketches, and watercolors. The cover is redone in brown suede, with vintage metal buttons and rawhide ties.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the pages.

This little book within the book, is my favorite, I think!! A tiny moleskine watercolor and gel pen flip book- I really wanted to keep this (and the watercolor of Miss Lilly!)

It is hard to do a flip book justice in a still shot!

Here is my "official" bar code - so exciting!!!

Well, thanks for looking - I hope to be back to regular posting, now that the turmoil of "normal" life has settled down a bit!!!
See you tomorrow for Tea on Tuesday, with an update on our teacup swap!

Sketchbook Art Project 2011

I was blog surfing this morning and came across and interesting post on This I Didn't Know

There is a place called the Brooklyn Art Library, and they are having a sketchbook project again this year.
There was a video of a CNN report on last year's sketchbook project- and wow- looks like fun!!!!

I signed up - there is a fee. Your Moleskine Cahier is mailed to you- you decide on a topic - there is a list to choose from. The Moleskines are in a variety of colors - I REALLY wanted the kraft paper brown cover - but that choice did not come up - so, I guess they are out of those already!! Looking at last year's video - it appeared that kraft brown WAS the cover of choice!!! There are already 5,655 people signed up!!!!!!!! Deadline for signup is Oct and project is due early January.

The finished sketchbooks are categorized, organized and sent on a tour across the country. You can choose to have your book digitized for the library's website- I did that. If you decide you want to part with your art while it's on tour- you can include a sale price. At each tour site, the public comes in, sits down, grabs an art journal and enjoys what has been created. So, keep in mind, your work will be handled- by quite a few people! If your project is digitized, it can be seen, page by page, online. How cool is that?

I am excited- kind of stepping out of my comfort zone again - but the ideas are already swirling around in my head. Altho I don't have the skills of alot of the artists I see who create journals (like Patty, for instance!), this will help me expand - I hope!!LOL
If you are one of those talented artists out there- and there are alot of you - I have been following your blogs!- check out this website and give it a shot!!!
