An Upcycled Easter

Just thought I'd share some of the newest upcycling I've done. Some pieces are available at Julieanna's, some are staying right home with me!!! It is hard to part with things sometimes!!LOL

Close up below of the piece above- vintage silverware, an orphan blue lustreware saucer, and a jam jar. Real eggs and flowers can be substituted- faux eggs and greenery are easier for the shop!

The one above has some local Harry Lauder Walking Stick branches- they will last forever.

 

An ATC from a recent Bad Penny/Linen Shelf swap fits perfectly with the Easter theme.

                                      Vintage silver goblets and candlesticks have a new use.

                This is my favorite little thrift store bunny - he looks like a piece of molded chocolate.

                                                   This last one is waiting for the glue to dry!!



               Even tho it is POURING outside today (again!)- this is a sure sign that spring IS here!!!

I was thumbing thru' my son's Details magazine and came across a brief article on this Georgia artist.

Check out this "Ghost in the Machine" series by Erika Iris Simmons

Not only is it amazing art - it is recycling at it's best!!!! She takes old VHS and cassette tapes and incorporates them into her art. Her film reel of Alfred Hitchcock is very cool!!! Based in Atlanta, her pieces start at $1,000.

In a totally different art direction, I stopped at a yard sale over the weekend, and purchased this gorgeous tiger! When I first looked at it, w/o my glasses, I thought it was a photograph. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was needlepoint!!! A local woman makes these, just as a hobby and stress reliever. She was selling them for $10 each!!!  Each one was more beautiful and realistic than the next- I had a hard time making a choice. Altho she didn't have any at the yard sale, some of them are matted and framed. She sells the unmatted ones (all tigers) , like mine, for $10, to pay for her supplies for the next needlepoint project!!! I couldn't believe I was the only one buying one!! I have done needlepoint, but could never do anything like this!  I'll be keeping an eye out for her next yard sale!!! (I also got a small wrought iron plant stand for  a dollar!)

Swaps, and Happy Mail, and New Creations.......................

I was in a altered matchbox swap with Penny, and just received a lovely package in the mail- from WAY east of Va Beach, as my postmaster told me!!! LOL From way across the pond- these lovely creations came!!! I guess I should have filled my matchbox with something other than air- all of these came with a goodie or two inside!!

A paper swap from LaWendula's blog garnered me this wonderful batch of  colorful papers! My swap partner outdid herself- and sent along a card she made too!!!

The other happy mail came from Nathalie of Ruby Floy- she advertised a Castaway bottle in her online shop - and I just couldn't resist!!! It is wonder-FULL!!!! I think you should all order one, when she has them in stock!!! If my creative self was lost on a desert island- this would be the thing to have - after water, fruit,  and chocolate, of course!!!

Next is a lovely bracelet I ordered from Mary Ellen's Etsy shop-Art Kissed- it is beautiful - and she even sent an extra goodie along!!!!The sentiment on the bracelet fits me exactly!!!

The last set of photos- these are two of the recent recycled, upcycled items I've made. They can be found in Julieanna's shop in Broadway, Va.  Vintage teapots are now wind chimes with altered and stamped silverware, and crystal prism "water droplets". The smaller hammered teapot can be a planter- it has sphagnum moss in it right now - but I can just picture it with some pansies or overflowing with ivy or portulaca.(UPDATE- the hammered teapot just sold!!!!- the other is still available! More to come!) Also a little 2 tier pedestal made from vintage English ironstone. I hope to get some of these in my Etsy shop soon!

I know this is probably sensory overload - but I am behind on blogging and figured I might as well post it all at once!!! I know I am missing writing about something else I recently got in the mail - but when I figure out what it is, I'll just write another post!!!
