And, now, we take a moment for this brief commercial break..........

I am, as a rule, pretty apolitical, but today I am pretty pissed off!! This BP/Obama oil fiasco has really got me riled.

What is wrong with this picture?? 54 days into this oil disaster, and Obama's administration will not allow Belgian, Dutch and other foreign vessels with oil skimming abilities who want to come in and clean up the oil to do so - due to an antiquated Jones Act! The act was put aside during Katrina- WHAT IS THE HOLDUP HERE!!!!???? 54 days is more than totally unacceptable!!!!!! If you haven't heard about this on the news, google this Jones Act and express your disgust!!!!

  2. This is not an Obama oil fiasco. It is a BP fiasco. A lot of people are upset about Obama messing with their health care and say the government needs to stay out of their lives. But then they want the government to step in and get a waiver for a long-held act. Bend the rules when it suits. Stay out when it doesn't. I think we all need this disaster as a wake up call. Big business especially. I think we need to see the results of our quest for more and more oil and to live with those pictures and put pressure on the companies that don't operate as they should.

  4. It is a national disgrace.....no matter who should be blamed. I also think other oil companies should be pitching in to help and to find a solution so that NONE of them cause this to happen again. (I also find it interesting that the person who chose to comment in DISagreement with you isn't brave enough to identify him/herself and is hiding behind "anonymous".)

  6. Anon is one of my non-blogger readers- I know who it is!!! I agree-It is a BP fiasco. Now it is turning into an all inclusive fiasco. And, this is a situation where blaming should be put aside and every effort should be made to clean up the mess pronto. At now 55 days, with no clear end in sight - we are WAAAY past the "pronto" stage!!!! I think we can all agree on that!!!The earth is a stewardship and is everyone's responsibility- cap the darn pipe and clean up the mess!

  8. One thing I haven't heard anyone talking about is the role of state govt. Specifically Louisiana and their relationship with oil companies in their own back yard. I know their economy is depressed and needs all the help it can get - but there should be stricter environmental guidelines on the state level to back up the failures on the federal level. People complain that environmentalists choke the up free market system ..... but they (the environmentalists) are also our jiminy cricket conscience that questions "drill baby drill" policy.

  10. Wonderful COMMON SENSE post, Pat!
It's tiring to listen to the "blame game!" Who cares HOW we got here! What are we going to do to remedy the problem rapidly? Teach future caretakers to be more RESPONSIBLE and wiser in choices compared to our own. We're a society that's OD on stupid pills at a mutiple rate daily!

This is a leak of the FINANCIAL kind in the attempt to cut corners, lack of thought in every angle & strategy through a plan PRIOR to drilling! Do you really believe OUR GOV'T. didn't get any financial gain from BP?! WAKE-UP America! It's time to spring clean congress and the senate for the better quality of the people as a whole.

What part of $$$$ can't purchase another EARTH to sustain us DON'T you people understand???!!! We've become a self-centered, self-absorbed society who doesn't care about anything or anyone... it's a crying shame for all involved! Earth is our HOME {house}, which we need to keep in good repair TOGETHER from continent to continent! When do we look at our past and choose better for our childrens and their childrens futures? The ocean is part of the eco system, which we can't exist without.

    ... on another note...

This ? is poised towards the ANONYMOUS commenters out there...

If you truly believe in a comment you've posted of oppostion to a PERSONAL weblog {journal of OWNERS thoughts & beliefs} WHY do you choose to keep your identity private???

There is consquences for every circumstance, good or bad for every decision!

  12. I know we are all mad and hurting. I do not blame Obama or our government. I feel they are doing whatever they can. I blame BP for continuing to operate a facility that was dangerous, and I blame the country (UK) who thinks the US is over reacting to a little problem. Their words, not mine.

  13. I agree with Anonymous that people blame the government when it is convenient to. And changing the current government will only bring back the ones that served for so many years and got the country into this mess. it is time to work together instead of the partisan politics. If Republicans block everything democrats suggest and say no without an alternate plan, how can the democrats be blamed for not getting something done? And if BP cut corners for whatever reasoon and this catastrophe ocurred, the it is up to BP to fix the problem as quickly as possible regardless of the cost. And as president, it is Obama's responsibility to make sure they do that.

  14. Good comments all!!!
But, if BP can't clean this up any faster, and apparently, they can't- others who can, need to be allowed to come in and do it-send the bill to BP!!!

  16. I came to Tuesday Tea, and decided to stay for the ecological and environmental debate. I'm either blessed or cursed by living in a land locked state, where "out of sight, out of mind" seems to be the rule. In fact, most of the people I know aren't even aware of the mess BP has made of this entire thing, or their underhanded dealings even before the crisis. Nor do they seem to care. If it isn't affecting their beef or wheat, what's the big stink? Well, one of these days, those beef and that wheat are going to feel the impact, I'm sure.

Thanks for this post. I'm glad to see that others are also making their thoughts known, which is a good thing.

  17. I am anonymous because it's the only category that I qualified under in the select profile,to post my comment. I think I even tried to leave my name, but you need a blog address. I am also pretty computer stupid. I don't have a blog, or a URL or any of those other things. I e-mailed Pat after I posted it to tell her and mentioned she might not be happy with me after she read it. She responded after reading with, "you go girl". She is a wonderfully, open, creative, sensitive woman that I call my friend, and vice-versa. She speaks to many through her pictures, her art and her words and speaks for those without voices. My words don't have the power to make her feelings less. Hopefully, those that are troubled by an "anonymous" comment are more troubled by the issue at hand.
